Seven Podcasts That Every Professional Should Be Listening To During Their Commute

/ Comments (3)

What’s better:

Listening to the latest Drake album on the way to the office….

or learning something that could change your life?

Ok, sure.

Maybe a mix of both would be great.

And if we listen to a podcast at 1.5x speed rather than normal – we might be able to squeeze in a track or two.

I’ve talked many times about how I’m always trying to optimize my time. Whether it’s paying to get my laundry done or creating a thing called “Wired-In Wednesdays” where I don’t take meetings; optimizing certain moments for learning and productivity can be very rewarding.

One of the most idle times of our day is when we’re commuting our bodies from one place to another. If you’re someone who can read while you are in a moving vehicle without getting car sick, you’re privileged. For me, that’s an impossible task and is a one way street to hanging out of the window sharing my breakfast with the pigeons.

So what do I do instead?

I listen to podcasts. I make sure that each and every week my phone has a handful of podcasts downloaded so I can listen to them during my commute. Whether it’s in the back of a cab or while I’m driving myself – podcasts are a great way to take in new information and gain insight.

In this blog post, I’m going to share with you some of the best podcasts on the air. Over the last few months there has been a SURGE in quality podcasts (thanks Serial) and here are some that I think ever professional and entrepreneur should be listening to on the regular:

How To Start A Startup

YC Stanford Class as an Audio Podcast Available on iTunes

This started at a YCombinator class at Stanford University that turned into one of the most referenced classes in the tech space. The talent that was brought in to give lectures ranged from the likes of Reid Hoffman of LinkedIn to Ben Horowitz of Andreessen Horowitz. To suggest that there’s an all-start lineup of brilliance in this podcast would be an understatement. I strongly recommend that every entrepreneur (especially those in tech) check out this podcast and listen to every single lecture.

There are nuggets of insight to be gained along the entire way.

The Dorm Room Tycoon sits in the middle as it’s definitely one of the best available but it’s still under the radar. Every interview is filled with insightful questions that deliver valuable and hard hitting answers. To be honest, I don’t know what’s more impressive – The DRT website or the actual interviews.

Either way, it’s a must subscribe – Check it out!
