As a work-at-home Mom, I have mastered the art of finishing things very quickly. But, despite the fact that tasks have to be completed in a short amount of time, my chosen professions require that I am very detail-oriented and error-free with my results.

I am meticulous and calculated in every minute of my day. From the time I wake up until the time I fall into my bed at night, I have my goal for that day in mind and I plan to finish most tasks in 24 hours.
Here are my tips on how to get almost anything done in 24 hours.

1) Turn off Facebook (and all social media), the TV and any other distracting devices: These items, while perfect for promotion and advertising, aren’t so great when you are trying to stay focused and get anything done. I keep my Facebook firmly shut once I have made up my mind that I have a goal for that day and it needs to be accomplished by the end of the day.

2) Don’t Answer Your Phone (unless it’s an emergency): I put my phone on vibrate and will only answer if it’s a relative or close friends. Everyone else can wait. If I answer and my family and friends simply want to chat, I cut that off quickly by telling them I have a deadline and this will get me off the phone in under 2–3 minutes.

3) Don’t allow anyone to take your focus (no matter how tempting): Even my sons understand that when Mommy is working there are no interruptions unless someone is bleeding profusely or dying. Haha. Just kidding. Wait, am I? No, not really. It’s so easy for me to get sidetracked. All my friends think I have ADHD. I probably do. I can’t stay focused with the slightest distraction. My mind is always going, so I have to minimize all interruptions if I want to complete any task to the best of my ability.

I’m a Creative. I need to be able to think in order to create beautiful results for my clients.

4) Close any web browser windows you aren’t using: This is important because leaving too many windows opened is not only distracting but too many programs running at one time will also cause computers to drag which in turn can slow down your productivity rate.

5) Optimize Your Computer for Optimum Performance:

First See #4. You can, also, restart your computer if it has been on for a long period of time to create a fresh start for your computer to help it operate more productively.

End unnecessary processes in the Task Manager.

Save items to the Google Drive or your preferred cloud service with cloud monitoring in place for their security to avoid your computer becoming bogged down with photos, documents, videos and other items you have saved.

These simple tasks will help you accomplish your goals faster.

6) Keep Healthy Prepared Food (and coffee) on hand: I barely stop when I’m very focused on my work. However, eating is good because it replenishes your nutrition and energy. Head to the kitchen for your food (don’t store it next to you) so this forces you to take a little break, then get back to work!

7) Keep the Children Occupied: I usually let my two older sons go outside to play when I know I want to get some work done for hours without interruption. Or I’ll send my toddler downstairs with my two oldest sons so I can work without having to stop for feedings and diaper changes.

I admit, it’s insane to start a business with three children under the age of 12, but it’s not impossible. I just have to be a bit more organized, practice effective time management techniques and remain persistent in achieving my goals.

8) Find people who have perfected what you need to do and follow their instructions verbatim: Why reinvent the wheel? Since becoming an Entrepreneur, I have studied from Gary Ajene, the T-Shirt Helpdesk Guy when I wanted to start my t-shirt business, LocStar Revolution and Mark Wills, Creator of the Loan Signing System when I began my mobile notary business, NoVA 24/7 Notary Services.

Don’t waste a lot of time trying to do things your own way. Find someone who is an expert at what they do and follow their lead. This will save you so much time because you can skip making a ton of mistakes.

9) Hire some help:

This might sound obvious, but you wouldn’t believe how stubborn I used to be about admitting I needed help. I felt guilty asking for help and believed I should be doing all the household duties since I was sitting in the house, right?

Wrong.

I finally had to come to terms with the fact that I’m a work-at-home Mom and I manage three business and I have three sons. I would never be able to accomplish all that I accomplish (or stay somewhat sane) if I didn’t finally break down and go looking for help.

Now, about 2 years as an Entrepreneur later, and I’ll hire people to do anything. Setup my MailChimp email templates. Check. Provide designs for my Designers and Scribes business when I get overloaded with assignments. Check. You name it and I have probably hired someone to do it.

10) Use Apps (Keep the ones you use regularly together and at the ready): I have a hundred apps on my Google Chrome browser, as well as, my Smartphone that help me get my day-to-day grind completed no matter where I’m at, as far as, location or time of day. Even when I need a break from my computer, I’m laying in bed blogging and sending blog articles off to Medium and WordPress. I’m on
Social Media, promoting my businesses. I’m posting items on Facebook Marketplace, in order to, raise money to invest in my businesses.

Most websites are mobile responsive now and much easier to use because many people are increasingly using their mobile devices for personal and professional use.

Configure apps to be most effective for your lifestyle. For example, use Buffer, Hootsuite or Everypost to schedule future posts to help promote your business. This frees up your time on other days to accomplish your other tasks.

11) Never stop being creative, adaptive and flexible: I create videos for my YouTube channel when I plan to do my hair a special way or cook a meal. I can end up with beautiful hair, dinner, and at least tutorial videos to upload to YouTube for my weekly vlog. Three birds with one stone, you can’t beat that!

Post blog articles and videos to more than one website to help grow your audience faster. Convert your blog to video format (or vice versa) so that you are sending the same quality content to video websites (e.g. YouTube and Vimeo) and blogger websites. These proactive actions will provide content for you to promote your business, yet, less work for you.

12) Set a goal and accomplish it no matter what: If I tell myself I will research and complete a high-quality content task in one day, I plan to do just that. I get through all the work for the project; then, upload my video, no matter how late it gets or how tired I get.

13) Select the “Medium Quality” option: If you would like to finish tasks before Christmas, sometimes, selecting the “medium quality” option will get you there. I have learned to lower my standards (not a lot but somewhat) and allow more flexibility into my Type-A life. This is necessary for all of us perfectionists out there. Trying to do everything perfectly is pointless if no one ever sees the finished product. Letting go of the high-strung behavior allows me to be more productive, accomplish more of my goals and get back to the business of what’s really important. Enjoying Life.

This is my list that allows me to be an Entrepreneur, follow my passions and dreams and spend more time with the people I love most.

What do you do to ensure you accomplish tasks in a timely manner?
